Who we are

Downingtown Balvihar (DBV) is a volunteer driven, non-profit (With IRS 501C3 certification) organization in West Chester, PA. We offer classroom and experience-based learning of Indian Culture, values, scriptures, languages, traditions, festivals and our history for children of our community to help raise them as strong, content, emotionally mature and happy individuals and successful leaders.

Our classes run every Sunday (September through May) from 2:30PM to 4:30PM in West Chester, PA

Our curriculum spans from the age of 3 (pre-K) through the end of High School (Grade 12)

What We Offer

For DBV graduates who are motivated to further explore, develop, and integrate a cultural relevance to their modern lives, we offer a robust Youth Group program (DBVYG).  Under the guidance of dedicated mentors, DBVYG members put cultural values into action through volunteer work and community involvement.  They strengthen their cultural identity through discussions, debate, and teaching.

Latest Updates and News

 Working with People's Pantry

During the month of February, DBV children participated in the Youth Group’s “Spread the Love” campaign. They earned jars of peanut butter and jelly to donate by doing a good deed. Together, our children collected 60 jars to benefit the People’s Pantry!

 

Project C.U.R.E Service Project

Youth Group students volunteered their Saturday morning to help Project C.U.R.E send much needed medical supplies for victims of the Turkey/Syria earthquake. 
 

Mindfulness and Vedanta sessions started for Teenagers and Adults

These fully interactive and discussion based sessions are open for all member parents and Youth Group Students. Using the situations we navigate in our day to day lives, the sessions focus on understanding ourselves and others, help us be emotionally mature, calm and resilient, help us be motivated and driven but stress free at the same time.

Events

We host several cultural events throughout the year to bring our families together to celebrate our culture and our ethos.  Our events give an opportunity to our children to experience and enjoy our traditions and build healthy and lifelong friendships in a safe and nurturing environment.

Holi April 15th 2023 -

All of us had an amazing time celebrating the festival of colors together. It was a blessing to see the togetherness, the laughter and the smiles. And of course the yummy delicacies during the lunch were the icing on the cake...
